COOKIE POLICY.
What cookies are, which ones we use, and how to turn them off if you'd rather not have them.
The short version
- We use a small number of cookies to keep the Site working, see which tools people find useful, and measure our own ads.
- We don't use cookies to sell your information or to pass you along to lenders.
- Our calculators work fine with non-essential cookies turned off.
SECTION · 01What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. They help a site remember things, like which pages you've visited, and help site owners understand how their site is used. Similar tools include pixels, tags, and local storage; in this policy, we call all of these "cookies."
This policy covers calculatemyrate.com and related pages operated by Calculate My Rate, LLC. It works together with our Privacy Policy.
SECTION · 02Types we use
Essential cookies
Needed for the Site to load, stay secure, block spam on our forms, and complete purchases. These can't be switched off in our systems, but you can block them in your browser (some parts of the Site may stop working).
Analytics cookies
Help us count visits and see which calculators and guides are helpful, so we can improve them. We use Google Analytics, managed through Google Tag Manager. This information is reported to us in aggregate.
Advertising cookies
When we run ads, Google Ads cookies help us measure whether those ads led people to the Site. Google may also use them to show our ads to people who've visited before. We don't receive your name or contact information from these cookies.
SECTION · 03Cookies on our Site
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Site / session cookies | Netlify (our website host) | Essential: loads pages, keeps forms and checkout working, security | Session to 1 year |
_ga | Google Analytics | Analytics: tells visitors apart (anonymously) | 2 years |
_ga_<ID> | Google Analytics | Analytics: keeps track of your session | 2 years |
_gcl_au | Google Ads (only when we run ads) | Advertising: measures ad conversions | 90 days |
IDE, NID, and similar | Google (only when we run ads) | Advertising: ad measurement and remarketing | Up to 13 months |
Exact cookie names can change when providers update their tools. We review this list periodically.
SECTION · 04How to control cookies
- Browser settings: Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Look under Settings → Privacy in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge.
- Google Analytics: Install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- Google ads: Manage or turn off ad personalization at Google Ad Settings.
- Industry opt-outs: Visit optout.aboutads.info or optout.networkadvertising.org.
Blocking analytics or advertising cookies won't stop our calculators from working.
SECTION · 05Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of targeted advertising for that browser. There's no industry standard for older "Do Not Track" signals, so we don't respond to those specifically, but GPC covers the same goal.
SECTION · 06Changes
If we add or change the tools we use, we'll update this policy and the "Last updated" date above.
